Father of the Minister of Mining, holder of the RTB Golden Plaque
Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović congratulated Serbian Miners’ Day in a very emotional way. She says in the congratulatory message:
“From my dad, a miner and mining-geological engineer, I have kept a gold plaque as a memento for his special contribution to the construction of RTB Bor, to remind me every day how difficult, responsible and dangerous mining work is and that we work every day to make it as safe as possible. To provide our miners with as good working conditions as possible. Happy Miners’ Day to all employees in the mining profession, and there are over 30,000 of them. Good luck!”
In the photos from the private archive, which Minister Đedović shared on her Instagram profile, one can see the Golden Plaque awarded to her father by RTB Bor, i.e., the Labor Organization “Veliki Krivelj” in 1982, on the occasion of the commissioning of this copper mine.
There is no harder job than mining
According to the words of the Head of the Privatization Department in the Ministry of Economy, Dušan Šutanovac, mining companies in Bor are performing better and better, increasing production, business income, and profit.
–Behind every successful company are employees. That is why we are glad to state that the number of employees and their wages are increasing, as well as that a collective agreement has been signed. This is extremely significant, because we know that there is no harder job than mining. That is why it is important that the employees are satisfied with the working conditions, safety measures and, of course, with the salary – emphasized Šutanovac
The award “Engineer Šistek”, as the highest award given by the Bor copper industry to the most deserving individuals and institutions for distinguished merits and contribution to the development of the company, was established way back in 1968. The new company, SERBIA ZIJIN COPPER, continued the tradition longer than more than half a century, so this year, to the constellation of 401 “Šistek’s” joined sixteen more of them. Executive Deputy General Manager in SERBIA ZIJIN COPPER Tang Kuangren read their names.
The company should pay more attention to the miners!
-When you have satisfied miners, satisfied fellow citizens, and a satisfied company that is engaged in mining, then, all we have to do is manage the development of the city. Thanks to new technologies, mining has become both an economic and ecological segment of society’s development, and our environment shows it. That is why I am kindly asking the company to take more care of the miners and our fellow citizens, to talk more with the unions and the people who represent the miners. Also, I kindly ask the miners to respect their company more and take care of it more, because we have had the opportunity to see throughout history how the collapse of a company happens where the miners do not take care of it – emphasized the Mayor of Bor Aleksandar Milikić.
The “Engineer Šistek” award for contribution to the development of SERBIA ZIJIN COPPER in 2024 was given to Nemanja Aničić, Saša Milić, Ivica Mladenović, Stevan Stojadinović (RBB), Dragan Nikolić, Dejan Rašković (RBM), Kristijan Vukmirović, Tatjana Tasić (TIR) and Stanislav Starčević (EMO).
On their behalf spoke first of all Tatjana Tasić, the only lady that SERBIA ZIJIN COPPER awarded this year with the prestigious award.
The hands of miners raised this country
The President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, sent a congratulatory message to all employees in the mining industry on the occasion of Miners’ Day. In the congratulatory message is stated:
“To all our miners and employees in the mining industry, I send sincere congratulations and special thanks for their unwavering dedication and effort. Your profession rarely gets the recognition it truly deserves, as you work tirelessly, often in challenging and demanding conditions, to provide your country with resources that are vital to our economy and industry. Your perseverance, courage, integrity, and patriotism are qualities that inspire all of us. The hands of miners raised this country, they are a solid support and the future of our economy in the times to come, because it is your work that contributes to a better life for our entire society. Every day, you provide key resources for countless aspects of modern life, from building our roads and homes to factories and industrial plants. Without you, as one of the pillars of the country’s progress, Serbia would not have been able to progress so unstoppably with large and rapid steps. That is why the state will pay special attention to the status of miners, in order to support in the best way all of you who show your love for your homeland in the most honorable and difficult way.
Today we celebrate your day – not only because of the work you do, but also for the spirit you embody. Thank you for your honest work and self-sacrifice, because being a miner is not only a symbol of the hard and responsible work you do, but also a vital part of our daily life and the world around us.
Happy Miners’ Day to you! Serbia is proud of you!”
–This day is very significant for all of us in the mining and metallurgical industry, because we celebrate our work, our courage, and dedication. I am extremely honored to be the recipient of this prestigious award. Since becoming a control room operator, I have had the opportunity to witness great challenges, incredible achievements and developments in the field of metallurgy. It is an industry that has a big impact on the environment and we are all aware of the responsibility that we bear. Thanks to innovations and modernization, we managed to keep up with world trends and standards in this area. I would especially like to emphasize the efforts made to improve occupational safety measures and environmental protection – said Tasić.
The Deputy Manager of the Grinding and Flotation Workshop in Flotation Majdanpek Dragan Nikolić proved that with a good organization of the overhaul in the factories for the preparation of mineral raw materials of RBM, the planned stoppage can be reduced to a minimum. He addressed the guests on behalf of the Majdanpek Branch.
– It is a great honor to stand here. I feel proud, but also a great responsibility. As prominent individuals of this time full of potential and challenges, we will continue to contribute so that all workers earn their “miners’ bread” as safely as possible – said Nikolić.
The “Magnificent Ones” from SERBIA ZIJIN COPPER were this year also in a company of Ivica Bilanović from the subcontractor company “Zijin Construction”, as well as the “golden six” from Zijin Mining: Marko Stančić, Nebojša Živković, Olivera Petrović, Miroslav Radosavljević, Tamara Ivanović and Danijela Todorović.
At the 6th of August ceremony, prizes from the art competition “Zijin Art” were presented, and Aleksandar Marković, who received the first prize, thanked the organizer on behalf of all the winners.
–The organizers value art, but also the artists for whom they have provided extraordinary conditions for work and creativity. This artistic manifestation contributes to the good image of companies that want to continue the good artistic tradition in Bor. Thanks to that, Bor is no longer spoken of only as a mining and industrial center, but also as a place with a rich painting and sculpture tradition and culture – said the young Marković.
A rich program for all ages
The afternoon and evening part of the program was intended for citizens of Bor and neighboring towns. The City of Bor and two Chinese companies gifted them a handball and football spectacle and a concert. In the “Bobana Momčilović Veličković” Sports Center, a friendly handball match was played by the super league women’s teams from Aranđelovac and Bor – ŽRK Bekament and ŽRK Bor Zijin Copper, while at the city stadium, FC Bor and “Partizan” played a friendly football match. At the stadium near the Hotel “Jezero”, the teams SERBIA ZIJIN COPPER and Serbia Zijin Mining played a “game” of minifootball.
