Dujanović: A completely different ecological picture of Bor

Bor today and Bor before Zijin’s arrival are as different as night and day because the Chinese investor made incredible changes in a short time. Large areas degraded by mining have been reclaimed, and the newly built and reconstructed metallurgical complex shows how much energy and resources the company invests in environmental protection, says the State Secretary.

SZK. – Representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of the Republic of Serbia paid a working visit to Bor on June 27, where they visited the mines and production plants of Serbia Zijin Copper. The management of the company, led by the deputy general manager in charge of ecology, Zou Gang, presented the guests with a detailed report on the activities in the field of environmental protection in the past period, and on the ground, they witnessed the results of the realized projects of reclamation of degraded areas and construction of new facilities for the purpose of water, air and soil protection.

State Secretary Aleksandar Dujanović and his colleagues toured the “Novo Cerovo” and “Veliki Krivelj” mines, the new flotation plant, as well as greened dams 1 and 2 of the flotation tailings dump, while most of the time during this visit was devoted to the new production plants of TIR and the presentation of the innovative technology and equipment that contributed to the reduction of sulfur dioxide emissions.

He stated on the ground that Zijin achieved excellent results in the field of environmental protection, better than those that can be seen in the documentation and reports submitted to the relevant ministry.

– Everything takes time, and you have made major changes in a short period of time. The situation on the ground is a completely different ecological picture than the one I remember before the arrival of the Zijin company. As the people would say “night and day”. Large areas degraded by mining activities have been reclaimed, and the newly built and reconstructed TIR complex shows how much energy and resources the company invests in environmental protection. The Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Ministry of Environmental Protection have the sustainable economic development of Serbia at the top of their priorities, taking into account the protection of the environment and the well-being of all citizens. We are working intensively on the “green transition” of Serbia and we are pleased to have the selfless support of the Serbian economy and foreign investment partners, among which is Serbia Zijin Copper – Dujanović said.

He emphasized once again that the cooperation between the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Zijin will continue in the future and promised support in the realization of projects that are in compliance with the highest environmental standards. Dujanović added that the company can count on the promptness of the ministry when assessing studies on the environmental impact in further mining activities.

At the closing meeting in the Head Office, members of the delegation summarized their impressions of the visit and assessed it as being very useful for a clearer understanding of the entire ecological situation in Bor. This was an opportunity to arrange the next meeting to discuss new green energy and sustainable mining projects.
